PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel emulsifier for emulsion polymerization having excellent surfactant activity comparable to an alkylphenol-based nonionic surfactant and brought to have good emulsion stability during the emulsion polymerization and good emulsion stability. SOLUTION: The emulsifier for emulsion polymerization contains at least one compound selected from a group consisting of general formulae (1), (2) and (3). In the formulae, R1expresses a hydrocarbon group, (Gly) expresses a glycerol residue; (AO)expresses an oxyalkylene group prepared by homo- or co-polymerization of 2-4C alkylene oxides.
