PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device or the like capable of confirming in advance the operation of a unit due to the execution of update software in a pseudo environment having the same system configuration as the actual environment. SOLUTION: A device 1 to be updated includes: a unit 11 to be controlled; a control software storage part 9 for storing a control software; a control software executing part 8 for obtaining the control software and executing control; an update software storage part 7 for storing an update software for updating the control software; an update software executing part 5 for obtaining the update software and executing control in a pseudo environment having the same system configuration as the actual environment in which the control software is executed; a device control part 10 for determining whether or not the control software executing part 8 and the update software executing part 5 are executing control; and a switching control part 4 for switching the control subject of the unit 11 to be controlled between the control software executing part 8 and the update software executing part 5 if it is determined that the control is not executed.
