PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform image display of high quality by generating stable sustained discharge even in a high definition plasma display panel. SOLUTION: A driving method of the plasma display panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells having a scanning electrode, a sustaining electrode and a data electrode is provided with a plurality of sub-fields having an initialization period generating initialization discharge by the discharge cells, a writing period selectively generating writing discharge by the discharge cells, and a sustaining period generating sustaining discharge by the discharge cell generating the writing discharge by alternatingly applying a sustaining pulse on the scanning electrode and the sustaining electrode in one field period. In the sustaining period of a prescribed sub-field, a voltage of the data electrode when generating first sustaining discharge is set higher than voltage of the data electrode when final sustaining discharge.
