A method for recognizing a card through image scanning in an ATM(Automated Teller Machine) is provided to strengthen security and perform card transaction reliably by scanning/recognizing a signature of a customer and a serial number of the card as well as information stored in a magnetic stripe or an IC chip, and transmitting the recognized information to a host computer of a financial facility. An ATM recognizes information of an inserted card(S300). The ATM scans the inserted card, and temporarily stores the recognized information and a scanning image in a storing part(S320). The scanning image includes a signature of a customer or a serial number of the card, and the ATM transmits the recognized information and the scanning image to a host computer of a financial facility through an information transmitter(S330). The host computer authenticates the inserted card by comparing the received information with the received scanning image(S340). The host computer returns an authentication result to the information transmitter of the ATM(S350). The ATM provides a banking service to the customer when the inserted card is authenticated based on the received authentication result(S370). |
