A driving device of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a driving method thereof are provided to improve color gamut of an LC panel as reducing power consumption of a backlight unit by controlling LED(Light Emitting Diode) driving according to video data. An LC panel(2) is formed as having a pixel area. A data analyzer(10) divides inputted video data into plural areas, and converts a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal according to each of the divided video data. A backlight(14) irradiates light to the LC panel. A backlight controller(12) generates a backlight driving signal corresponding to the converted PWM signal, and drives the backlight according to the divided areas.
