TRANSMISSION METHOD

A method of transmission of data in a system having at least three levels of bit reliability comprises transmitting bits of a symbol with a first distribution of reliability levels of the bits; and transmitting at least some of the bits at a different reliability level in a retransmission. The bits of the symbol in the first transmission are allocated positions in the distribution representative of first, second and third reliability levels; and in the retransmission, the bits in positions representing the first and third reliability levels are exchanged.
