Polymerisable and curable compositions, processes of polymerising and curing polyurethanes involving an isocyanate compound and a nitrite ester compound are disclosed. Irradiation of the nitrite ester compound with UV generates an active hydrogen compound by the Barton reaction that reacts with an isocyanate compound to produce and/or cross-link a polyurethane.
