A refrigerator is provided to inform a user of the existence or concentration of bacteria in the compartment of the refrigerator as sensed by a bacteria sensor. A refrigerator includes at least one or more bacteria sensor(11) mounted in a compartment for sensing the existence or concentration of bacteria for outputting the information, a controller(14) receiving the information from the sensor and generating a display command, and a display unit(20) connected to the controller via a communication line and displaying a standby screen, wherein the display unit displays an information screen.
