<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film preventing light leakage in black display of a liquid crystal display device inexpensively with uniform optical characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes steps of: rubbing a long plastic film F; applying and fixing liquid crystalline molecules on the surface of the rubbed film to form a first optical compensation layer 13 satisfying nx>ny=nz; and laminating a second optical compensation layer 14 satisfying nx>ny>nz and 1.2≤Nz≤2 thereon. In the rubbing step, the film is conveyed by a conveyer belt 3 having a metal surface, and a backup roll mechanism 5 supporting the undersurface of the conveyer belt is arranged. The mechanism includes a plurality of backup rolls 51 individually rotating along the conveyance direction of the conveyer belt, and each backup roll is arranged along a straight line directly under the rubbing roll and almost parallel to the rotation axis of the rubbing roll. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
