PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader by which a time and effort for a setting the operation of a book original reading mode are saved and a frame and center shadow erasure function is rightly executed. SOLUTION: In the image reader provided with a reading and scanning means for the read scanning of an original loaded on an original table and an image processing means having the function for erasing the frame, the center shadow formed in an image read by the reading and scanning means, the original table is provided with a piezoelectric sensor which detects thrust from upward to the original table and the image processing means automatically sets a mode for erasing the frame, the center shadow when the piezoelectric sensor detects predetermined pressure.
