The steamer (1) has a carrying device (18), in which a stoppage plate (20) for goods and a heating unit (16) are arranged, where the carrying device is movable back and forth by a manual or automatic drive vertical to a work plate (2) e.g. kitchen work plate, between an idle position and an operating position. The stoppage plate has a height smaller than an upper side of the stoppage plate in the idle position, and is held in the carrying device relative to each other in a movable manner. The stoppage plate or the heating unit is fixed in the carrying device in a vertical direction.
