PROCESS FOR PRODUCING PLUGGED HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE

A process for producing plugged honeycomb structure (30) through filling given open end potions of cells (2) (cell open end potions (7)) with plugging slurry (6) containing a slurry dispersant and subsequent firing so as to form plugged portions (15). The process comprises the sticking step of sticking masking film (4) to end face (11); the perforation step of making holes (3) at portions of the masking film (4) corresponding to given cell open end potions (7); and the filling step of coating cell wall (10) at the given cell open end potions (7) with coating agent (20) containing at least one type of compatible component soluble in a slurry dispersant and immersing the end face (11) having the masking film (4) attached thereto in plugging slurry (6) so as to fill the given cell open end potions (7) with the plugging slurry (6).
