The object is to provide a cytoplasmic male sterile lettuce which is useful for production of a lettuce F1 cultivar, and a method for production of the lettuce. Disclosed is a cytoplasmic hybrid plant belonging to the genus Lactuca which has a gene derived from the cytoplasm of a plant belonging to the genus Helianthus in its cytoplasm, preferably which is cytoplasmic male sterile, or a progeny or a part of the plant. Also disclosed is a method for production of the plant.
