摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device having less brightness irregularity in a screen even if the screen is made large in size. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device is provided with a planar light source and a liquid crystal panel. The planar light source has a light guide plate 2, a pair of electrode sections 13, a bar-like light source 11LT disposed oppositely to one end face 2b of the light guide plate therealong, and a frame 8 disposed so as to be closely-attached to one face of the light guide plate through a reflecting sheet. The light guide plate receives light from the light source through one end face thereof and emits the light through the other face thereof. The frame is provided with a pair of protrusions 8a-3 extending from locations corresponding to a pair of electrodes 13 at the one end face of the light guide plate to intermediate locations on the light guide plate in a direction apart from the light source to form a space between the reflecting sheet and the frame, respectively. Each of the pair of protrusions has vent hole 8a1-3, 8a2-3 communicating the space with an outer space at both ends thereof with respect to the extending direction. The liquid crystal panel is disposed oppositely to the other face of the light guide plate of the planar light source.
