PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator which hardly makes noises due to discharging and hardly increases an ozone generating volume even when an oscillated frequency is increased because of a failure of an oscillation circuit for obtaining discharge voltage. SOLUTION: The ion generator is provided with a capacitor 9 which is given a direct current voltage Vcc through a resistor 8 and an oscillation circuit 26 for outputting a cyclic signal to interrupt a discharge current from the capacitor 9, and discharging is carried out by a voltage raised by utilizing an interruption of the discharging current from the capacitor 9 and an cation and an anion or anion is generated. A time constant of a circuit composed of the resistor 8 and the capacitor 9 is set up at 1/3 or more of a cyclic period of the cyclic signal outputted by the oscillation circuit 6.
