PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thin-film magnetic head which can raise thermal efficiency of a heater. SOLUTION: In a thin-film magnetic head equipped with; a reproduction element formed between upper and lower shield layers; a record element laminated on the upper shield layer; a heater which projects at least either the reproduction element or the record element to a recording medium side by thermal expansion; and shunt wiring which gives the same reference potential as the potential of the upper and lower shield layers to a magnetic layer of the record element. The shunt wiring is connected with the magnetic layer of the record element at a location deviated from the center of a heating area of the heater in a track width direction.
