PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means making it possible to easily select a reference image desired by a user from a plurality of images in an electronic camera for compositing a reference image with a through image and proposing the composite image to the user. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is provided with an image pickup section, a recording section, a first control section, an image processing section, and a monitor. The image pickup section picks up an image of a subject to generate data of the image. The recording section records the data of picked-up image generated in the image pickup section into a recording medium. The first control section extracts the data of a reference image matching predetermined searching conditions from among the data of picked-up images recorded in the recording medium. The image processing section superimposes a through image generated by the image pickup section when it is in a non-release state with the reference image to generate a composite image.
