PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a steel wire rod excellent in a fatigue characteristic. SOLUTION: When a refining treatment of molten steel 4 as the original of the steel wire rod is applied, this refining treatment is anyone or the combination of two or more of a ladle gas stirring refining, a ladle gas stirring refining in a reduced pressure vessel, an electromagnetic induction stirring refining in the ladle and circulating type degassing refining, and the composition of slag 13 used in this refining treatment is composed of CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>=0.5 to 1.5, Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>=3 to 25 mass% and MgO=3-25 mass% and furthermore, the total of [(stirring power density)×(refining time)] at respective stirring refining is in the range of 800-1500.
