In a process to fabricate a crash-energy absorbent automotive frame component with a main base (3) and a strengthening cap (1), the main base is fabricated by a suitable process e.g. extrusion. A strengthening cap (1) consists of fiber core elements (11) within a matrix (12). The automotive component (2) is formed by mechanical combination e.g. die-casting of the cap and main base, or bonding, screws or rivets. |
