PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MRI apparatus capable of enhancing the comfortable level and sensation of a subject by means of an illumination. SOLUTION: The MRI apparatus includes: a gantry 1 for storing a magnetostatic field magnet 2, which generates a magnetostatic field, a gradient coil 4 for generating a gradient magnetic field, and an RF coil 5 for transmitting/receiving an RF pulse, and has an opening for inserting the subject; a bed having a top board for placing the subject to be inserted to the opening; and illumination means 16 and 19 provided at least in the opening or at a position outside the opening, so as to illuminate the opening part, and performing illumination, thereby increasing a light quantity from a bed side toward a bed side opposite to the bed side across the opening.
