A method includes, in a POS device linked to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network, enabling a set of VoIP core functions interfaced with a POS application process, the set of VoIP core functions selected from the group consisting of receiving a VoIP call, initiating a VoIP call, transferring a VoIP call, sending telephony data and receiving telephony data.
