A method and a system for controlling DRM(Digital Rights Management)-related rights in an environment separating a DRM agent and a rendering application are provided to enable the DRM agent to recognize a situation of the rendering application through a control message in the environment of which a device executing the DRM agent is separated from the device executing the rendering application. A rendering application device(410) informs a DRM agent device(420) of a contents consumption pattern by transmitting a first control message. The DRM agent device recognizes the contents consumption pattern through the first control message and transmits a second control message responding to recognition to the rendering application device. The DRM agent device includes a message receiver(421) receiving the first control message, a consumption pattern recognizer(422) recognizing the contents consumption pattern through the first control message, a validity determiner(423) determining validity of license constraint for consumed contents, and a message transmitter(425) transmitting the second control message including validity information for the license constrain to the rendering application device.
