PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter detector of a cup jelly capable of eliminating trouble when the jelly is imaged to obtain a clear image and capable of certainly detecting foreign matter without erroneously recognizing the ingredients such as sariocarp or fibers mixed with the jelly as foreign matter. SOLUTION: In the foreign matter detector 1 of the cup jelly equipped with an imaging camera 2 for imaging the cup jelly 30 and a controller 10 having an image processing means 11 for processing the image to judge the presence of the foreign matter, the imaging camera 2 is arranged on the lateral side of the cup jelly 30. This foreign matter detector 1 is also equipped with a first illumination device 3 for irradiating the cup jelly 30 with visible light from above, a second illumination device 4 for illuminating the cup jelly 30 with infrared rays or white light and the backlight 5 installed at the position opposed to the imaging camera 2 so as to hold the cup jelly 30. The first illumination device 3 is composed of a red LED, a green LED and a blue LED and the luminous intensity of the backlight 5 is made less than the luminous intensities of the first and second illumination devices 3 and 4.
