PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for synthesizing [R-(R<SP>*</SP>,R<SP>*</SP>)]-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-β,δ-dihydroxy-5-(1-methylethyl)-3-phenyl-4-[(phenylamino)carbonyl]-1H-pyrrole-1-heptanoic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, and to provide a new intermediate to be used in the method. SOLUTION: An alkyl (for example, tert-butyl) 3,5-dihydroxy-6-cyanohexanoate as a starting raw material is reacted with cyclopentanone or cyclohexanone to prepare an intermediate such as tert-butylcyclopentylidenenitrile and tert-butylcyclohexylidenenitrile (a new intermediate), which is then reduced and condensed with atorvastatin diketone to prepare the above objective compound. The product produced by the method of the present invention is useful for the cure of hyperlipemia, hypercholesteremia, osteoporosis, prostatomegaly or Alzheimer disease. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
