PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metatitanic acid slurry as a precursor of titanium oxide for a photocatalyst, with which it becomes possible to produce titanium oxide for the photocatalyst excellent in various photocatalytic performances. SOLUTION: The metatitanic acid slurry for photocatalyst titanium oxide is characterized in that the sedimentation speed is 15-30 mm/30 min under such conditions that the content as TiO<SB>2</SB>is 40 g/L and the temperature is 30°C. The metatitanic acid slurry is produced by adding an anatase seed separately prepared to a titanyl sulfate solution in an amount of 3-10 mass% in terms of TiO<SB>2</SB>in the titanyl sulfate solution, heating the resulting mixture at a temperature not lower than the boiling point to hydrolyze, filtering and washing, thereafter, making the washed substance into slurry and neutralizing and washing the slurry in a pH of 4-7.
