An ice making system and a method thereof are provided to make ice even in a refrigerating compartment without any additional chilled air duct and to separate ice easily from the ice making system by a heating element. An ice making system includes a tray(201) storing water to make ice, a refrigerant pipe(40) immersed in the water stored in the tray at least partially for making ice through the heat exchange between the water and refrigerant of low temperature flowing in the pipe, and a heating element(46) mounted at the surface of the refrigerant pipe for separating ice from the refrigerant pipe. The refrigerant pipe are curved or folded by a plurality of times to form protrusion parts(401), which are immersed partially in the water of the tray for ice making and ice separating.
