PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of improving display quality (in particular, display quality of motion video) by reducing after-image in display of motion video with reduced cost, and a lighting system used for it. SOLUTION: The lighting system is composed of a plurality of fluorescent tubes having metal electrodes at the outside of the tubes at both end parts and a drive circuit to send a drive waveform of mutually reverse phase to the electrodes at both ends of the fluorescent tubes and light the plurality of fluorescent tubes.
