PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that logarithmic arithmetic of adding the original value of a numeric value expressed by a logarithmic value cannot be performed with less computational complexity in conventional arithmetic processors. SOLUTION: The logarithmic arithmetic of adding the original value of the numeric value expressed by the logarithmic value can be performed with less computational complexity by means of an arithmetic processor which receives an logarithmic value X (X=log<SB>a</SB>x1) of a positive number x1 and a logarithmic value Y (Y=log<SB>a</SB>x2) of a positive number x2, obtains a larger numeric value (A) between X and Y, obtains a smaller one (B) of X and Y, reads out A, B, computes "x=A-B", reads out a parameter (a<SB>m</SB>, b<SB>m</SB>) corresponding to x from a prestored parameter set, computes "y=a<SB>m</SB>x+b<SB>m</SB>" by using the parameter (a<SB>m</SB>, b<SB>m</SB>) and the x, obtains y, adds A and y, and outputs the addition result.
