PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably shorten a time required for a user to browse a video, while accurately detecting a section of voice of a person and faithfully maintaining, a synchronous relation between a video image and a voice in accordance with the detected voice section. SOLUTION: In a video playback apparatus, on the basis of sub-information contained in video data, a section A representing a voice period of a person and a section B other than A are determined and on the basis of the video data, in the section A, the picture is reproduced with voices at 1x speed or at a predetermined speed as the user can understand contents (1.5 to 2 times as high as 1x-speed playback, for example). In the section B, on the other hand, high-speed video playback with voices at low volume at least or silent high-speed video playback is performed at a higher speed than the predetermined speed (5 to 10-times as high as 1x speed playback, for example).
