A digital radiation detector based on a plasma display panel and a control method thereof are provided to improve resolution and efficiency by amplifying generated signals by gradually increasing voltage. A digital radiation detector based on a plasma display panel includes substrates(11,19), dielectric layers(13,14), electrodes(12,20), separators(15,16), a conversion layer(17), and a gas layer(18). The substrates are arranged to face each other. The dielectric layers are formed on the facing surfaces of the substrates. The electrodes are formed between the substrates and the dielectric layers. The separators are formed on the dielectric layers. The conversion layer is formed inside the separators and fluoresces for converting X-ray into electrons. The gas layer is formed by the conversion layer and contains gas converting X-ray into electrons.
