PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a rope brake required separately from a driving device in case of breakage of a belt in a conventional emergency braking device, in regard to an elevator device provided with a car, a counterweight and a rope suspending the car and the counterweight, a belt brought in contact with the rope to push a certain region of the rope from a side, and a driving device for driving the belt. SOLUTION: A braking device is provided in one or more sheaves for changing direction of the rope when the belt is broken to stop the elevator with friction between the sheave and the rope.
