PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a matter that the physical properties of a recording medium vary with the operating environment of a recorder having a means for cutting a continuous recording medium thus causing poor cutting. SOLUTION: The recorder performing recording on a continuous recording medium comprises a means for carrying the recording medium, a means for recording an image on the recording medium carried by the carrying means, a means for detecting the operating environment of the recorder, a means for cutting the recording medium by moving in the direction of intersecting the carrying direction of the recording medium by the carrying means perpendicularly, and a means for controlling the moving speed of the cutting means depending on the detection results from the detection means.
