The device (2) has multiple roof parts (3) and a flexible folding top ply (4)connected with the roof parts, which are brought from a condition that modularly overstretches a vehicle area into a condition that partially releases the vehicle area. The folding top ply is transferable from a position in which the top ply represents a part of a vehicle roof, into another position in which the top ply acts as a luggage rack and/or as a wind deflector. The former position is parallel to a roof level, and the latter position is approximately parallel to a vehicle vertical axis.
