The device (1) has a plate carrier (9) movable between a loading position (7) and a washing position, where the plate carrier has a support for retaining a microplate (3). A wash head and the plate carrier are formed in such a manner that the head and the carrier converge each other. The wash head is fixed in an operating position, and the plate carrier is rotatable around a vertical axis and is adjustably formed in its washing position in a direction that stays perpendicular to the support of the microplate on the plate carrier. An independent claim is also included for a method for filling and/or rinsing a shaft of a horizontally arranged microplate using washing liquids and/or for suction of washing liquids from the shaft.
