PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video processing apparatus determining information on the image quality of a video displayed on a display apparatus and performing video processing for displaying the video with a size appropriate for the display device according to the information and a method for controlling the video processing apparatus.

SOLUTION: By using the information (resolution information of the video and bit rate information etc.) on the image quality of an inputted video signal and a determination table holding the video display size predetermined according to the resolution of the video and the bit rate, the size (magnification factor) optimum for displaying the inputted video signal is determined.
