PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converter capable of suppressing wavelength conversion of input light at a wavelength where wavelength conversion is not intended. SOLUTION: The input light as a conversion object, with one of excitation light beams emitting from an excitation light source 11 and branched by a light branching section 12, is multiplexed by a light multiplexing section 21 and inputted to one end of an optical fiber 31. The light outputted from the other end of the optical fiber 31, with the other excitation light beam emitting from the excitation light source 11 and branched by the light branching section 12, is multiplexed by a light multiplexing section 22 and inputted to one end of an optical fiber 32. While the input light and the excitation light are guided through the optical fibers 31, 32, a nonlinear optical phenomenon is induced to generate converted light in the optical fibers 31, 32 at wavelengths different from the wavelength of the input light.
