PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further decrease shavings caused by friction of the sliding surface of a focal plane shutter. SOLUTION: The focal plane shutter is equipped with: a bottom board 1 constituting the frame of the focal plane shutter; a front curtain 41 and a rear curtain 51 for opening/closing an aperture part 1a formed on the bottom board; a front curtain drive arm 42 supporting the front curtain so as to make the front curtain travel; a rear curtain drive arm 52 supporting the rear curtain so as to make the rear curtain travel; a front curtain supporting shaft 44 fixed on the front curtain and rotatably fit in a fitting hole formed on the front curtain drive arm; a rear curtain supporting shaft 54 fixed on the rear curtain and rotatably fit in a fitting hole formed on the rear curtain drive arm; and a cover plate 3 holding the front curtain and the rear curtain between the bottom board and the cover plate. Eutectoid plating in which solid lubricant is dispersed is applied to at least both of mutually sliding parts of the bottom board and the cover plate and of the front curtain supporting shaft and the rear curtain supporting shaft.
