The 8-gear multi-step transmission comprises a drive input shaft (AN), a drive output shaft (AB), four planetary gearsets (RS 1 , RS 2 , RS 3 , RS 4 ), eight rotary shafts ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ) and five shift elements (A, B, C, D, E). An internal gear (HO 1 ) of the first planetary gearset (RS 1 ) and the drive input shaft (AN) are connected to one another as the first shaft ( 1 ). A carrier (ST 4 ) of the fourth gearset (RS 4 ) and the drive output shaft (AB) are connected to one another as the second shaft ( 2 ). A sun gear (SO 2 ) of the second gearset (RS 2 ), and a sun gear (SO 3 ) of the third gearset (RS 3 ) are connected to one another as the third shaft ( 3 ). An internal gear (HO 2 ) of the second gearset (RS 2 ) forms the fourth shaft ( 4 ). An internal gear (HO 3 ) of the third gearset (RS 3 ) forms the fifth shaft ( 5 ). A carrier (ST 2 ) of the second gearset (RS 2 ) and an internal gear (HO 4 ) of the fourth gearset (RS 4 ) are connected to one another as the sixth shaft ( 6 ). A sun gear (SO 1 ) of the first gearset (RS 1 ) and a sun gear (SO 4 ) of the fourth gearset (RS 4 ) are connected to one another as the seventh shaft ( 7 ). A carrier (ST 1 ) of the first gearset (RS 1 ) and a carrier (ST 3 ) of the third gearset (RS 3 ) are connected to one another as the eighth shaft ( 8 ). The shift elements are arranged in the flow of power as follows: the first shift element (A) between the third shaft ( 3 ) and the transmission housing (GG), the second shift element (B) between fourth shaft ( 4 ) and the housing (GG), the third shift element (C) either between the first and seventh shaft ( 1, 7 ), or between the first and eighth shaft ( 1, 8 ), or between the seventh and eighth shaft ( 7, 8 ), the fourth shift element (D) between the fifth and sixth shaft ( 5, 6 ) and the fifth shift element (E) between the fifth and seventh shaft ( 5, 7 ).
