Disclosed is a cosmetic which has an antioxidant activity and a moisturizing property at levels similar or superior to those of a conventional vitamin E derivative, has an excellent emulsifying ability and an excellent solubilizing ability, is remarkably reduced in stickiness to the skin (particularly, a sticky feeling after application to the skin and until the cosmetic is dried on the skin), and has excellent usability. The cosmetic comprises a vitamin E derivative represented by the formula (I) or a salt thereof, wherein R₁, R₂ and R₃ independently represent H or CH₃; R₄ represents H, a C_1-6 alkanoyl group, a C_1-6 alkyl group, a SO₃H groyp, a P(O)(OH)₂ group, a CH₂COOH group or a COCH₂CH(SO₃H)COOH group; EO represents an ethylene oxide group; BO represents a butylene oxide group; k and n independently represent a number of 0 to 30; and m represents a number of 1 to 30.
