IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS, AND PROGRAM UPDATE METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a method for acquiring a storage area avoiding that the type of image data cannot be converted as a memory cannot be acquired.

SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus includes one or more processing units which perform processes concerning image formation, a control unit which performs communications with the processing units directly or via the other processing units, and a program which operates the processing units and the control unit. The apparatus has an update program acquiring unit that acquires an update program for updating programs and a program update unit that updates the program of one of the processing units to the update program in the order of the number of the processing units through which the one of the processing units and the control unit communicate with each other.
