PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of switching from a firm contact state to a released state with less force. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes a fixing roller 1 and a pressure roller 2. A support member 8 has a support point S and supports one end of the pressure roller 2 so that the pressure roller is rockable around the support point S. A firm contact spring 12 applies pressing force to the support member 8 in such a direction that the pressure roller 2 is brought into press-contact with the fixing roller 1. The cam 6 has a large-diameter portion R and a small-diameter portion r, and releases the fixing roller 1 and pressure roller 2 from being kept in press-contact with each other, by causing the large-diameter portion R to apply reverse force to the pressing force to the support member 8 at a point T away from the support point S rather than at the point where the pressing force is applied.
