PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a rotary position detection method that is strong against noise as in a resolver, extends transmission distance, and obtains a detection signal, by using a Hall element. SOLUTION: In the Hall element resolver 10, a pair of Hall elements 13, 23 is arranged so that sinusoidal detection signals where the phases differ by 90 degrees are generated following the rotation of a rotary magnetic drum magnetized in two poles. As control currents Ic<SB>1</SB>, Ic<SB>2</SB>for driving respective Hall elements 13, 23, alternate currents having an identical frequency where the phases differ by 90 degrees are supplied. Sinusoidal, balanced modulation signals where the phases differ by 90 degrees, are outputted as detection signals V<SB>H1</SB>, V<SB>H2</SB>from respective Hall elements 13, 23, and a rotary position is calculated based on the balanced modulation signals.
