Existent imaging device involves a problem of low resolution and incapable of satisfying all of long lifetime, high luminance, and favorable color reproduction. The foregoing object can be attained according to the invention in an imaging device having excitation unit of irradiating an excitation energy to a phosphor layer to emit a light, in which at least a portion of a phosphor forming a phosphor layer contains a phosphor having a composition represented by the general formula (La<SUB>1-x-y-z</SUB>Ln<SUB>x</SUB>Sc<SUB>y</SUB>M<SUB>z</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>5 </SUB>where Ln represents at least one element of Tb and Ce, M represents at least one element of Lu, Y and Gd, and x, y, and z satisfy: 0<x<1, 0<y<1, and 0<z<1. |
