The actuator (1) has a housing (3) for mounting an extension material (2), and a heating unit (4) i.e. heating coil, arranged in the housing. The heating unit is formed as a self-supporting mold, where current is supplied to the heating unit over an electrical connecting unit (5), so that the extension material is heated by the heating unit. The self-supporting mold has high rigidity and/or high stability in a temperature range based on an operating area of the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a heating unit for a thermostatic actuator.
