A color image scanning apparatus and a method thereof are provided to reproduce a desired color in scanning certain photographic paper. A storage unit(108) includes a look-up table including correction values obtained by correcting the first color data, which has been obtained as the first photographic paper including a plurality of color patches are scanned, according to the type of the photographic paper. A final image generating unit(110) corrects the second color data, which is obtained as the second photographic paper is scanned, with reference to a look-up table corresponding to the second photographic paper of the look-up table. A scanning unit(101) scans the first photographic paper to generate the first color data. An extracting unit(102) extracts each color data with respect to a plurality of color patches from the first color data. A correcting unit(104) corrects each extracted color data according to the type of the photographic paper to generate the correction value. A look-up table generating unit(107) generates the look-up table according to the type of the photographic paper.
