<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component mounting method which ensures production tailored to the environment by automatically detecting the status of a component mounting machine even when the status of a component mounting machine side is changed in the middle of consecutive downloading during production under the control of a central processor. <P>SOLUTION: The component mounting method, optimized by a central processor, mounts components supplied from a feeder attached to a component mounting machine on specified substrate locations using the component mounting machine in accordance with many production programs being consecutively downloaded to the component mounting machine. The central processor obtains setting status of the component mounting machine every time the production programs are downloaded during consecutive downloading time (S102).
