A method for receiving a broadcast program by an Internet broadcast receiver is provided to prevent the occurrence of buffering for a long time when a network load is increased, to thus prevent displaying of a no-signal screen image. An IPTV(Internet Protocol TV) server is connected to an IPTV receiver and provides broadcast programs of various contents and menu data for selecting picture quality(S10). When a user selects a certain broadcast program and a menu item of high picture quality, the IPTV receiver generates a corresponding request message and transmits it to the IPTV server(S11). The IPTV server provides a broadcast program of high picture quality(S12). The IPTV receiver outputs images of high picture quality and voice of high sound quality via an IPTV, during which if a network load is rapidly increased(S13), the IPTV receiver transmits a message for requesting transmission of a broadcast program of low picture quality to the IPTV server(S14). The IPTV provides a broadcast program of low picture quality(S15). When the network load is reduced(S16), the IPTV receiver transmits a message for requesting transmission of a broadcast program of high picture quality to the IPTV server(S17). The IPTV server provides the broadcast program of high picture quality(S18).
