A process for printing an image on a substrate by means of an ink-jet printer which comprises applying thereto a composition comprising a liquid medium and a mono-azo compound of Formula (I) and salts thereof; wherein: D is an optionally substituted aryl group carrying at least one direct substituent selected from the group consisting of -SO3H, -CO2H, -PO3H2 or an optionally substituted nitrogen heteroaryl group carrying at least one direct substituent selected from the group consisting of -SO3H, -CO2H, -PO3H2; R1 is H: optionally substituted alkyl: amino: -NR<4>R<5>; wherein R<4> is H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted acyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heterocyclyl: and R<5> is optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted acyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heterocyclyl: -OR<6>; wherein R<6> is H or optionally substituted alkyl: or -SR<7>; wherein R<7> is optionally substituted alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are each independently preferably amino: -NR<4>R<5>; wherein R<4> is H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted acyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heterocyclyl; and R<5> is optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted acyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heterocyclyl: hydroxy -OR<6>; wherein R<6> is H or optionally substituted alkyl: or -SR<7>; wherein R is optionally substituted alkyl: X is H, or an electron withdrawing group, or X together with R<3> forms an optionally substituted five or six membered carbocycle.
