PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map-data processing method in which a part of large- capacity map data provided by a recording medium or the like is updated with satisfactory efficiency and in which new data and old data are used with satisfactory efficiency so as to have a matching property, to provide a map-data processing program and to provide a map-data processing unit for realizing the map-data processing method. SOLUTION: Whole-country map data is divided into a plurality of blocks, each block is divided into a plurality of meshes, each block has whole-mesh control information, and a part of the whole-country map data is updated in units of meshes while the whole-mesh control information is being used. At this time, the whole-mesh control information in the recording medium 2 is transferred to a nonvolatile memory 12 inside a navigation system 1, and its content is updated sequentially according to its update.
