A mobile phone which includes a location unit, for example, a GPS receiver, and a database of known hotspots. The phone periodically determines its position and compares this to the database of hotspots. If the device is within a hotspot, the phone makes a temporary record of this. When a user attempts to make a call or other connection, the phone checks the temporary record and if it determines that the phone is within a hotspot, the phone connects to the access point of that hotspot and establishes a VoIP or other data connection. |
